Entonces, abrió apenas la puerta y escuchó...He barely opened the door, then he heard...

He barely opened the door then he heard... Two months before, Louis met Sophia, she was a beautiful little woman, her body was pure temptation, she had an angel's face and dark blue eyes. He met her at the university, he was paying the exam's fee to become a PhD and she had just done it. He felt he was being observed and turned around, his eyes and hers met and that gave them goose pimples immediately. Both tried to say something but their words cascaded into plain nonsense, so they both ended up laughing up their sleeves.

Me llamo Sofía!

Luis put himself together and said: "Dear lady, I know you not but after this mutually ridiculous situation you will not deny me at least your name". She said: "Of course not! I am Sophia and you? He said: "You won't forget it, I am Louis". Sophia then said: "Follow me, Louis! Let's have a cup of coffee, so you can tell me all about you and so I shall unless dyslalia attacks again. Louis felt as if he had met her in a previous life, so he didn't think it twice, he grabbed her hand and followed her. She did not resist his move, so they went to the school's cafeteria.

So, they sat in a corner of the school’s cafeteria and talked for hours, both enjoying their conversation,  savoring the joy of having met and their vanilla capuccinos. Their conversation continued in his appartment, listening Brazilian music all night, especially a singer called Marisa Monte whose voice was like silk to their ears. Next day, Sophia introduced Louis to her brothers and parents who liked him very much because he was a conversation master, he could talk endlessly about any subject, so everybody enjoyed his company.

A month later, they organized their wedding and they got married on Ash Wednesday, a few days later. Their honeymoon trip to Paris was extraordinary because she was a History Major and was almost a PhD, pending a final exam. The opportunity to visit The Louvre Museum was like a dream that had been an impossible project until then. Their happiness was skyrocketing.

When they came back to Mexico, they both took their final exams to obtain their PhD's, so they gathered a few friends to celebrate it after they succeeded with flying colors: He was now a PhD in Literature and she became a PhD in Art History. Their smiles revealed how immensely happy they were.

Exactly two months after they first met, Sophia thought they might go to have supper at a nice restaurant; yet, she said nothing to do it as a surprise. Louis stayed at work longer than he expected, grading his Tec students' papers. When he got home, about 10 O'clock at night, he parked his car and looked up to see his appartment's windows, there were no lights on, that was weird he thought, he had just called his wife a while ago.

When he opened the door of his appartment, curtains had been drawn, it was pitch dark, so he thought his wife might have gone to sleep. And yet, he listened to some noises coming out of his bedroom and flattered himself thinking, she must be dreaming about him. So, to avoid waking her up, tiptoed to the bedroom's door and barely opened it when he heard his wife moaning as if she was making sex with somebody else.

All the illusion of being a newly wed totally in love, came crashing down in pieces. He did not want to hear or watch any further. He rushed away and as he left his appartment,  he heard Sophia's voice screaming at him: "Louis, what's wrong? Come back, Louis, talk to me! Louis!!! Louis!! But he wanted to hear no more, he had heard plenty to know she had cheated on him. So, he went away running till he was on top of a bridge, a block from a fountain dedicated to oil workers, over the same bridge where he had kissed her passionately  only two weeks back.

He was so desperate he could not think clearly. Suddenly, he heard Sophia's voice, still far from him, yelling: "Louis, what are you doing there? He turned to see her coming towards him. So, before she could do anything to prevent it he threw himself down the bridge, he fell right in front of a trailer who could not stop in time, the large vehicle hit him away as if he was a weightless puppet. Sophia's beautiful face was transformed by the terror and disbelief of what had just happened.

If only Louis had got the door opened wide, he would have seen Sophia's watching the video they had recorded in Paris of them both making love...

John was the sole object of affection of her mother. Everybody could plainly see that she always went out of her way to take care of him. There was not a detail in his clothes or the way he combed his hair that escaped her attention to make it right. Not only did she choose his clothes but she also decided what he should put on. People often thought that she was rather possessive. However, it was understandable because of how intensely she loved him. When John grew into an extremely handsome teen-ager, he was so remarkably good-looking as to make him look of a totally different breed from his fellow-students.

So, there was always some jerk teasing him about his looks. Actually, what explained that problem was that all the young girls wanted to go out with John, so they showed no interest in any other school-mate. Thus, John was the target of his envious fellow-students.

John's mother, Elizabeth, was also an outstandingly beautiful person, so much so that frequently she was overwhelmed by photographers and painters as well that wished to make a portrait of her. And yet, when they laid eyes on him, they forgot all about her. Far from getting angry, she got prouder and prouder of her son.

At night, Elizabeth, got into John's bedroom to wish him good-night and kiss him on his cheek. On one of those occasions, she entered his room and saw him completely naked, her eyes could not help enjoy watching such a perfect body. Without realizing what she was doing she took off the silk robe that barely covered her extremely attractive anatomy. She deduced that he was sleeping soundly and she observed that he had an erection, so  she immediately put herself on top of him and raped him over and over. He did not open his eyes because he did not want to wake up from what he thought it was a delicious and incredibly vivid wet dream.

Luisa was extremely happy because she had finished her courses to become a bilingual secretary and the school's employment office had obtained a very good job for her in a NorthAmerican company.
Her first day at work was not easy: She was extremely nervous when her boss, the CEO of the Company dictated a quotation letter to her. However, she became more and more confident every day. Her boss was an old guy from Michoacán, México, about seventy-years-old and gray hair. He was really a nice person who treated her gently.

A month later, the vicepresident of the company started sexually harassing her. She immediately talked to her boss about it and the vicepresident offered her an apology which she accepted immediately.       Afterwards, Don Ignacio told her not to smile all the time because some of the employees might misinterpret it and behave inappropriately with her. In addition, he asked her to dress more discretely because if she kept on dressing like she did, she would divert the attention of too many people. Her green eyes, black hair and marvellous body was already a distraction for many of them, she did not need to go any extra mile to make her look any more attractive. She agreed and said she would change her behavior and the way she dressed.

Everything was going fine during the next six months but one morning, like any other, when she arrived at the office, she was told that Don Ignacio had died. Every employee in the company went to the burial because he had been such a great person who had won everybody’s affection as he used to help anybody who needed anything.

But then came more bad news: The vicepresident, Mr. Juan López would become her boss now. Luisa thought of quitting but she could not: Her father was working for Sony and this company decided to let him go along with 300 people; and her brother had the bad idea of having a fist fight with his boss, so both her father and brother were unemployed, thus, she could not quit her job. Then, Luisa had a naïve thought, wishful thinking, maybe her new boss would not make any more advances. Yet, only a month went by when the new CEO called her to give her some flowers which she refused saying: “You know my fiancé is extremely jealous, so I cannot take that from you”. He retorted: “Listen, baby, I am your boss so, you have to accept anything I give, tell you, or do to you, in case this is not acceptable you may resign at any time. She nodded down and took away the flowers he gave her.

Next day, Mr. López came rushing by and sent for Luisa. “Luisa what the hell did you say to the corporate manager, this morning he called and told me to come to the office to pick up my things, he fired me bitch, it’s your damn fault!” She was terrified, she said in a barely audible voice that she had made no comment about him to anybody. Then, he went to the door and locked it. She ran to a corner, next she panicked. He walked towards her looking furious, took off his pants and underware and before she moved a finger he had already taken her skirt up, tore her panties and penetrated her. She could not have stopped him because she was frozen with fear.

Luisa ended up crying her eyes out. He told her not to make a scene and when he went towards the door he heard the noise of the shattered glass of a large window he had in his office, she had just broken it into a thousand pieces, next she threw herself out of the window, only to find death four floors below. He ran towards the broken window and peeped out to see where she had fallen, she was lying still in the middle of a puddle of blood on the sidewalk of Avenue Reforma, and already many people around her dead body.

She had killed herself but he was to be blamed. He was charged with murder and sentenced to ten years imprisonment. Five years later, he was released for good behavior, but nobody would give him a job, so he ended up as a homeless beggar.

Jacinta was immensely happy because she had been offered a job in Culiacán, Sinaloa, México, in one of the McDonald's restaurants, after being unemployed for six months. She decided to take her son with her, even if that meant getting a second job to earn enough money to survive. She started working as happy as a morning bird because she had been given a uniform, she thought it was going to be for free until she received her first paycheck where she saw, the cost of the uniform was going to be deducted from her salary. The first few days were not easy as she and her son ate only twice a day.

A couple of weeks afterwards, Jacinta got another job as a servant. She was a beautiful young woman, dark-skinned; black, thick and straight hair, green-eyes, fleshy lips and a very tempting body. She worked mornings in the fast-food restaurant -she was so naive that she thought the place was called fast-food because her regulars grew fat so fast after eating trash-food. In her afternoon job, she cleaned the house of an old American lady. By the time she reached home, she was exhausted; yet, her face lit up when she saw her three-year-old child, Joselito -white-skinned, blue- eyed and rosy cheeks- smiling as he laid eyes on her, often saying: "Mummy!!! You are here already!!!". She just melted. Then, the little one would kiss the neighbor who took care of him all day, and away he would go leaping for joy to the small room she had rented on the roof terrace.

But, before going away, Jacinta told her neighbor Doña Sofía, a 68 years-old retired Spanish professor with a gente blue-eyed look, "Doña Sofía, I don't know how am I going to pay you for your help". The answer was immediate: "Sweetie, I don't know how will I pay you, Joselito fills my day with joy doing and saying funny things all day, he is like a little bell that sweetens my loss, as you know, my dear John died last year, leaving me in silence all day.

Jacinta hugged the old lady good-bye. Next morning, she went to work as usual. Unfortunately, when she walked by a dead-end street, three thugs, probably drug-addicts with ugly faces, stopped her saying: Where to, honey? And why so lonely with such teats, mummy? She tried to escape running away but they were faster, they catched up with her and dragged her to alley where they torn her dress till she was naked, then they penetrated her violently, each at a time while the other two licked her body as dogs in heat. A police car stopped by the alley and two cops came rushing out of it to save Jacinta from being killed, though not from being raped. She would never be the same: Her fearful face and terror before the slightest move of a male near her, would never go away.

Envidia 3 / Envy 3

 ---------------------------------------------------o--------------------------------------------------------------------
Cristina had a friend, Cecilia, whom she cared for very much because ever since she was a child, she was taken on every vacation by her friend  to many different places in Mexico, Europe and Asia. In addition, every Christmas she received wonderful toys, courtesy of her friend's family.
Cecilia was a a spectacular beauty, she was blonde, her blue eyes were kind of dark, she was classy and her body was sinuous as a top model. Whereas, Cristina was rather unattractive and had a disagreeable temper. Yet, she was a fast talker and could convince quite a few of doing what she wanted.
When they both went to college, Cecilia saw Cristina fewer times than before because she felt a bit embarrassed in front of other friends on account of the clothes her friend wore. Cecilia tried to give her designer's clothes but  she was too proud to accept that.      Last time they met, Cristina accused Cecilia of being just another petite bourgeois that took advantage of the poor people she hired as servants; then, she told every employee in Cecilia's house that they should all quit their jobs because they were not being paid what they should. That was the breaking point in their friendship. Cecilia told her friend: "You are a spoiled and ungrateful friend and your ideas about poor people make you blind to the point of betraying your best friend". Cristina got really mad and told her: "You do not deserve my friendship because you belong to the kind of people who make poor people miserable. One day you'll regret what you just said to me. I will become a powerful politician and I will take all your lands and properties away from your family". Then, Cecilia did not talk to her anymore, she addressed the Butler and told him to see her exfriend to the door and never again allow her into her house again.
Who would have thought that Cristina was to meet a young fellow in college who would take Cristina to a government position that would enable her to dispossess her friend's family of everything and that she would do the same with many other families?; and all this because of how deeply in her heart  she had grown envious of what her friend had as she could not have half of that  being  the daughter of a man who drove buses for a living.
However, Cristina could not do her will forever, so after quite a few years of ruling only for her benefit and ruining her country she  was ousted from power  and later on  murdered by a raging mob. Indeed, as the holy writ says: "The mills of God grind slowly, but the grind exceedingly well".

Envidia 2 / Envy 2

Luis was the shine and pride of his parents until Alicia was born. She became the center of everybody; she received presents from each and every person who came into her house. Luis was ignored completely. The minute Alicia had something in her hands, he snatched it away. His parents thought this was temporary, nothing serious, just another case of a jealous sibling.  He grew up hating his sister more and more every time: She obtained better grades than him and had lots of friends whereas Luis was flunked by his teachers very often and had no friends at all.

The breaking point happened when Alicia became fifteen-years-old, her parents practically broke the bank to throw the best party in town for their daughter. Luis practically went mad. The day of the party, Luis locked himself up in his bedroom and would not come out. Alicia decided to persuade him to enjoy the party as well, so, she knocked at his door. He opened it and maliciously accepted her in.
Once she was inside his room, she spoke sweetly to him: "Come on Luis, this party will mean nothing if you are not there!" He was extremely angry, so she tried in vain to calm him down. Then, she turned to the door to go away. He would not allow it, he pulled her long hair towards him and she fell over a marble table and hit her head. It seemed she was dead.  He could not believe it, he had planned to kill her himself, she could not die like that. So, he went to his night-table and took out a knife and started stabbing her all over. When he got tired and bored, he took out his cell-pone and called his mom: "Mom, my sis is coming down, will you please let the musicians to start playing a waltz for her?

A couple of minutes later, he started climbing down the impressively huge marble stairs, sided by a black balustrade. It was a terrible sight: His hands, face and clothes were wet with blood, nobody could have imagined, not even in their wildest nightmare what they were seeing: He had put on her blood-stained and torn dress and he held in his arms the dead body of his sister wearing his own clothes.

Envidia 1 / Envy 1

Rebeca was the most intelligent student of her group and the most beautiful, all the girls of the high-school where she studied were envious of her. And the worst one was Artemisa, a blonde girl -graceless and obnoxious- who started persuading the girls of her group that Rebeca was too arrogant and that she needed a lesson to become less so. Since Artemisa was the strongest of them all and the richest, many girls listened to her. Artemisa organized the most envious of Rebeca's beauty to meet her the next day, outside the school.

On Tuesday, when Artemisa saw Rebeca coming out of the school, she told her friends: "Come on guys, let's teach her a lesson she may not forget". Nobody saw when Artemisa took out of her backpack a metallic blackboard eraser and started hitting  Rebeca brutally on her face. Rebeca fought back and kicked her on the knee so hard that she fell to the ground. The rest of the girls reacted furiously and all of them ran after Rebeca threw her down and started kicking her so hard that they would have killed her had a profesor not stopped them in time. So,  he called an ambulance that took an unconscious Rebeca away to a hospital.

Incendio 5 / Fire 5

Louis left home about six O’clock to go to a National Park called “Nevado de Toluca” with some fellow-workers, to do some mountain jogging in order to improve their VO2 Max. Once they arrived at Toluca they went to have some lunch at a restaurant near the “Nevado”. Then, they chose a place to put up the tents and when they finished doing it, off they went jogging up the volcanoe. Half-way up, Richard, one of the joggers said: “Hey, Guys, cramps on both my legs are killing me, probably I had too much to eat, so I will go down now”.
For the rest of the joggers, climbing up was a hard job because the higher they went, the less oxygen they provided their lungs with. When they reached 10,000 ft., it was decided that it was time to take pictures as they were hardly catching up their breath. They took some pix of the “Lake of the Moon” in one of the craters. It was spectacular because it was crystal clear and it was slightly frozen; yet, it was like a mirror reflecting an intensely blue sky that had some white clouds as beautiful decoration. After a while, they started walking down the extinct volcanoe.
Once they reached the camping grounds, Richard had already cooked a lamb. The soup was glorious and everybody was happy. As the night fell, somebody prepared coffee with brown sugar in small cones, others preferred to have hot chocolate and they all ate “buñuelos” (some sort of sweet freeter) homemade that was so delicious as if it were some gods’ food. So, everybody sat around the fire and started telling stories.
Gerry, the youngest of them all, said he had a friend who was continuously bothered by a leprechaun who misplaced everything. Sophie, a beautiful colored young woman, said her father had found a treasure right beneath some stairs in an old house in the City of Puebla. Curiously enough, before the discovery was made, people reported having seen lights of every color coming out of the stairs. Then, Pedro –a chemical engineer- told a story in a very low voice:
My grand-father joined General Zapata’s army, during the Mexican Revolution, so my grand-mother was extremely sad because she thought she would never see him again. One night, at about eleven O’clock, the huge patio was filled by a tremendous noise that came from the house’s main door. One of the servants woke up and went to see who was knocking at the door in such a noisy way. He was in for a big surprise, it was his master, Don Cosme, my grand-mother could not believe her eyes when she saw her husband. They immediately ran to embrace each other. Then, they went to the kitchen where she prepared some hot beverage (“atole”) made from corn and that smelled deliciously, so, my grand-father drank it as if an angel had served it for him. My granny also gave him some “tamales” (chopped meat wrapped in cornmeal dough, then fried). As he finished his meal, they both went to sleep, extremely happy on account of their unexpected reunion. Early in the morning, my grand-mother woke up and found her husband was there no more. She thought he had gone rabbit hunting. Later on, about midday, some soldiers knocked at the door bearing bad news, they told my granny: “We regret deeply to inform you your husband was killed in combat yesterday and we bring you his corpse to be properly buried”. My grand-mother thought it was some kind of silly joke of her husband, but when she saw the dead body of her beloved one, she passed out. Nobody ever explained how could it be possible for a dead man to pay a visit as a person who is still alive”.
As soon as the story ended, somebody said that love might be blind but it is certainly powerful enough to bring back to life –if only for a short time- a dead man. Having this said, most people headed for their tents to sleep, after all, tomorrow they would have to wake up early and go jogging again. Unfortunately, those who were supposed to put out the fire did not do it and later that night some of the surrounding trees were terribly set on fire. Fortunately, an old man who was passing by, woke everybody up, so no one was hurt. Some soldiers that showed up from who knows where, extinguished the fire, and they did it so fast that they were gone before anyone could thank them or the old man. Somebody said jokingly: “Surely, they must have been ghost soldiers from Don Pedro’s grand-father’s army and his very own grand-father!”. Then, there was a silence because someone found a very old shot-gun and an old picture of General Zapata and Don Pedro’s grand-father.

Incendio 4 / Fire 4

You were driving your car on the toll road to the City of Puebla, Mexico and when you were near the small town of Cold River, the car in front of you started spinning around, totally out of control. You stepped on the brakes to avoid an accident, then the other car stopped and you saw the driver's face terrified as he realized you were going fast against him; so, your car skidded and crashed against his vehicle that was thrown about twenty feet away, the sound of the cars colliding against one another was awful: Metallic parts  ripping off and glass smashing into a thousand pieces; suddenly, in the middle of the night and against the dark pine trees, the car you just hit exploded and its flames, like huge tongues of fire became a threat to the woods around you. Your car was upside down, you unbuckled your seat belt and crawled outside the car. You could not believe that a moment ago you were happily singing on your way to get married the following day. Now, you were not even able to stand up, your back ached severely and your legs were bleeding too much...

Incendio 3 / Fire 3

On my way to work, I got myself into a terrible traffic jam. It seemed it was going to take forever to go any further. After fifteen minutes of staying still, I got off my vehicle and went to see what was going on. You wouldn't believe it, there was a huge hole on the pavement, no less than 70 feet  deep and three lanes wide, so nobody could move forward. As I returned to my car I heard an explosion and I felt my back awfully hot, then I passed out.

When I regained consciousness, a paramedic told me that a gas pipe had exploded and that several cars had been burned completely. I was reached by the flames so my coat started to burn, fortunately, a lady had stepped off her car and put out the fire on time with her car's extinguisher; and I passed out because a rock had hit my head.

The traffic jam ended somehow, but not my head-ache.  I went straight to a hospital where the doctor told me: "My friend, don't worry about your head, your clothes got the worst of the damage, you won't be any less intelligent than before but neither will you become a candidate for the Nobel Prize of literature as a consequence of your accident." In other words, I would not be any crazier than I already was. My mom used to say: "Rafa, you are a hard-headed man like your grand-father.

Incendio 2 / Fire 2

Freddy came home and told his mom he had had a fight with Sofía, Gerardo's sister, the leader of the gang in their barrio. Doña Rosa told his son to think twice what he had done and that it was better to go back and try to win his girlfriend back unless he thought that was not aceptable or possible. Freddy gave it a second thought and he went back to his girlfriend's house. Unfortunately, he bumped into Gerardo, a block from Sofía's house. Gerardo told Freddy: "Come over here stupid! Why on Earth did you make my sister cry? Then, Gerardo told his buddies to tie Freddy to a nearby light pole where they beat Freddy unconscious. They would have killed him if Sofia had not arrived in time to prevent the murder.

An ambulance took Freddy to the hospital. A week later, he came back home. Yet, not a minute had gone by when all the windows of his house were shattered to pieces by hundreds of stones that were thrown from the street, then, bottles with gasolina swished into the house and started a fire inside the small house. Freddy and his mother could not escape from the fire because the door of the house was blocked from outside.  Some neighbors heard Freddy and his mom screaming, so they tried to put away the fire, but by the time they did it , both victims were death due to asphyxia. Gerardo had done it again: He had already served time for burning other houses.

Incendio 1 / Fire 1

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Suddenly, a masked fellow got into the store and demanded from the employee all the money he had in the cash register. Gerry -the employee- refused to comply so the thief shot him on the shoulder. So, Gerry had no other option tan to deliver the money. The law-breaker put all the money in a bag and while he was at it, he was so completely happy and absorbed that he did not see when Gerry got a gun out of a drawer and shot him to death.

Then, Gerry called the police and while he was waiting for them, he slid the mask off the robber's face, only to realize he had killed no other but his cousin Louis. Gerry's aunt would get extremely mad at him. Exactly two days later, the store was burnt to the ground by the furious aunt.

La piel de Belinda / Belinda's skin

Belinda es de tersa piel que amanece.
Si la acaricias, se encienden sus poros
Y se turba su mirada esmeralda.
------------------o---------------------------
A palpar suave y mullida textura.
----------------o------------------------------
Si tu mano se deslizara sobre
La celestial cintura, su piel te
Transportaría al paraíso de Eva
----------------o----------------------
Y Adán, y si continuaras el viaje,
La piel sobre su sinuosa cadera
Un sol tu corazón encendería.
_____________________________

Belinda’s skin is a terse sunrise
If you caress it, her skin pores lit up
And her emerald look becomes uneasy.
------------------o-----------------------------
The skin that covers her chest is perfect
As it covers two mountains crowned
By small domes that invite you
To touch her soft and springy texture.
------------------o----------------------------
If your hand slided over
Her celestial waist, her skin would
Transport you to Eva and Adam’s
----------------o---------------------------
Paradise and if you travelled further
Her skin over her sinuous hip,
A sun would lit up your heart.

GULA / GLUTTONY

3. GULA.
3. GLUTTONY.
Lucy was thin as a stick and her classmates, fifth-graders, mocked her every day. Recess was the time to make fun of her and insult her in every possible way.
One day she decided to gain weight and started eating more and more. Unfortunately, she reached the point of no return, she enjoyed food so much that she could not stop the habit of overeating. She even stopped going to school as she could not think of anything else but eating all the time. Besides, she had gained so much weight that again she was the laughing stock of boys and girls at school, on account of being exceedingly obese. Actually, she was now so fat that she could not go out of her bedroom as there was no way she could squeeze herself through the door. One night, she ate twenty oranges, all by herself, and somewhere between three or four in the morning she went to the bathroom to throw up, but as she was doing it, she took a breath so she suffered asphyxia due to bronchoaspiration: she choked herself to death with her own liquids because of her uncontrollable  gluttony.*
*Actually, my dad (a physician) prevented me from having any orange at all at night time, his words:
“An orange is pure gold in the morning, silver at noon but  at night, it will kill you son".

3. Soneto: "Un día de sol" / Sonnet: A day under the sun

----------------------o-------------------------
Su cuerpo esculpido por Amor:
Busto generoso, cintura breve
Cadera a la perfección diseñada,
---------------------o----------------------------
Sus piernas moldeadas virtuosamente.
Y su voz me invitaba a escucharla,
Sus labios carnosos me seducían.

Belinda approached me tiptoeing
and whispered in my ear that we
had to go to the beach to enjoy the sun.
It was a splendid day without a single cloud.
----------------------o--------------------------------
I was madly and blindly in love
with her beautiful light-colored eyes,
framed by her designer's eyebrows,
her white skin as the purest of marbles.
---------------------o-------------------------------
Her body was sculpted by Love,
her generous breasts, brief waist
Hips perfectly designed,
--------------------o---------------------------
Her legs virtuously moulded
And her voice invited me to listen to her
while her fleshy lips seduced me.

2 Ira

_______________________________________________________________________________

Lucy told Henry what he had long coming on account of his heavey drinking: She told him to leave the house but since it belonged to him, she was the one who had to leave. So, as  it could be expected she ended up going to live at  her mother's house. Doña Bertha, her mom, had a difficult life already as she had married an exmarine who had no legs and annoyed her constantly because of his jealousy.

Lucy could not stand how much her one year-old baby cried and everytime she heard him crying she went mad and got away from the house, leaving her mother with the difficult task to calm down the baby. Doña Bertha asked her daughter not to do that anymore but Lucy continued behaving irresponsibly.

During a rainy day in September, Lucy told her mom that she was going to have a job interview at a beer factory called Cervecería Modelo and she was very excited. She only had one decent blue dress that fit her very becomingly. She had her hair fixed very early in the morning and when she got back from the beauty parlor, her mom asked her to hold the baby.  Lucy was sitting down cleaning her shoes when she was handed in her son which she put on her lap, then he turned around and threw up on her new dress all he had eaten. She went nuts and threw the baby to the floor.

As the baby hit the floor with a thud, Doña Bertha came to the living room as fast as she could. Unfortunately, too late, the baby was lying down on a puddle of blood. She called 911 but to no avail because the baby had already died because of how hard he had hit the floor. The baby was buried the next day.

Two days later, Lucy went to the police station to declare herself guilty of having killed her baby, as she was ordered by Doña Bertha her own mother.

2 Un día de lluvia / 2 A rainy day

La lluvia caía tenue en mi rostro
infantil mientras  pisaba los  charcos
camino de regreso de la escuela,
supongo que había sido un gran día,

recordando a Rosita mi primera
novia: Rubia graciosa de ojo alegre,
cabello rizado y hoyuelos en sus
mejillas (aún no sabía de otros).

El aire refrescaba mi memoria
y mágicamente, me transportaba
a  juegos inocentes en la arena.

Tiempo después, nos iniciamos en
besos y caricias, metidos ya en
la cama del cuarto de la sirvienta.

Naucalpan, México.    2014.

2.  A rainy day

Rain was falling softly over my kid's
face as I went splashing  puddles
on my way back from school,
I suppose it had been a great day

remembering Rosita, my very first
sweetheart: Graceful blonde of joyful eyes,
curly hair and dimples in her cheeks,
back then I knew no other dimples.

The air refreshed my memory
and magically transported me to
innocent games on the sand.

Later on, we initiated ourselves in
kissing and hugging, under a blanket
on a bed, inside the maid's room.

SONETO AMOR / LOVE SONNET

El amor es un sentimiento único,
ocurre cuando menos en tres planos:
Mentalmente, espiritualmente;  y
físicamente (por reacción química)
------------------o--------------------
Además, es un impulso que lleva
a conductas casi... irracionales.
puede estar impregnado de nobleza
o manchado con las peores maldades.
-----------------o-----------------------
En ocasiones la gente se engaña
y por la gran necesidad que tiene
cree estar profundamente enamorada,
-----------------o-----------------------
Cuando en realidad es sólo atracción
física, mental, espiritual;  o
por un gran temor a quedarse sol@
______________________________

Love is a unique feeling
that is undoubtedly threefold:
It's in our mind, in our spirit and
in our body (due to a chemical reaction).
------------------o-------------------
In addition, it is an impulse that leads us
to almost irrational behaviors.
It might be filled with noble feelings
or stained with the worst evil deeds.
--------------------o-------------------
Sometimes, people deceive themselves
because of how much they need it,
so they think themselves  deeply in love.
-------------------o---------------------
However, the truth maybe that it's only
infatuation, mental or spiritual attraction.
Or just a terrible fear of loneliness.

MINIFICCIÓN BILÍNGÜE / BILINGUAL MINISHORT-STORY AÑO 2014/ YEAR 2014

El accidente / The accident

Seguramente, me estaba volviendo loco.

Humberto said we would meet at noon, on January the first, 2014, right beside The Monument dedicated to women, located on a public park in an area of Mexico City called "La Condesa" (The Countess), so our families would get to know each other. Humberto had been my best friend in a  high school of La Salle University, so I was looking forward to our reunion after so many years.

On the first day of 2014, I took my wife and kids to the park where we would all meet. I parked my VW Jetta  on a nearby street. As my wife and kids, hand in hand, walked before me, a few steps away, a speeding car ran over my family and its driver fled from the scene. I knelt down beside the bleeding corpses. I was in a state of shock, I could not believe that just a while ago, their beautiful smiles still lit up my life when their death left me blind in total darkness.

Later on, I woke up on a hospital bed, and a nurse was beside me. I felt an itching on my left leg, so I stretched my arm to scratch it but it was there no more. My first thought was that this had to be a nightmare from which I would soon wake up. Suddenly, I saw my wife as she entered the room I was in, along with my kids. I thought I was going crazy. Eugene, my wife, explained to me that I had saved their lives by pushing them away from a speeding car; unfortunately, the automobile had run over my leg, so the surgeon had to perform an amputation.

As for the reckless driver, he was already behind bars after he was caught by the police a few blocks away. It turned out that he was drunk and she was sorry to say, it was my old friend from school who, by the way, he  had no wife or kids.
